This is without a doubt the definitive guide to conjugation of French verbs. I've spoken French fluently for 15 or more years and this is still useful. Yet, it is an indispensible reference and not overwhelming for beginning students.
Reasons to consider no other book:
-QUALITY - unsurpassed. this is a translation of the guide that French people themselves use.
-THOROUGHNESS - Thousands upon thousands of verbs. It shows every possible way to conjugate verbs in French. With extensive crossreferencing it saves TONS of space, only showing you unique ways to conjugate. Very easy to use.
-SIZE - very small, lightweight and portable
What other book is so compact yet so complete? what other book can be so complete as to let you know that when you use verb/subject inversion (to form a question) for indicative present tense regular "-er" verbs, you need to add an "é" (but pronounce as "è") for the 1st person singular (je)? Example:
I love you = "Je t'aime"
Do I love you? = "T'aimé-je?" and NOT "T'aime-je"
This is the best! Consider no other conjugation book, they are heavy and incomplete!

This is the ultimate French verb book. It's got every verb conjugated in every sense. It also rates the top 50 most used verbs, a very useful feature. It's very nicely packaged, and in my opinion better than 501 Verbs, although I have both and both are truly great resources.

Other than a good French/English dictionary (I strongly recommend Langenscheidt's Pocket French Dictionary), this is far and away the best investment I have made in my French education. Verbes are one of the most common stumbling blocks for English speaking students of French. This book is user friendly and incredily informative, just make sure you take the time to read over the introduction and familiarize yourself with the various resources it contains.

Barron's is today and always has been the Number-One reference source for verb usage in virtually every major language. Leading all competition, the best selling 501 French Verbs beats all less well-established rivals with its brand-new 6th edition. It's printed in two colors, it features tinted page edges for ease of reference, and it comes with extra help for French language students in the form of a CD-ROM. The book presents the most important and most commonly used French verbs arranged alphabetically with English translations in chart form, one verb per page, and conjugated in all persons and tenses, both active and passive. The accompanying CD-ROM gives students practice exercises in verb conjugation plus a concise grammar review. This combined book and software package is a comprehensive guide to French verb usage with a wealth of reference material and language tips, including a bilingual list of more than 1,250 additional French verbs, helpful expressions and idioms for travelers, and verb drills and short tests with all questions answered and explained.
