(More customer reviews)I have found this book's layout to be very clear and easy to follow. The introduction teaches in detail how German spelling are supposed to sound by providing english words that appoximate the sounds. This book seems to contain grammar lessons that are more extensive than those found in the popular "Teach Yourself" course. This book serves duly as a workbook in that you can write your answers to the exercises in the spaces provided and refer to the correct answers in the back of the book. My biggest gripe about the book is that there were no pictures. I love pictures!

Comparative Mythology Review

(More customer reviews)This is absolutely the best text on Indo-European Comparative Mythology that you will ever find. Dr. Puhvel has a wonderful sense of humor as well as a knack for complicated topics in a manner that is easy for anyone to understand. You can't beat this book for overviews of the traditions of Vedic India, Epic India, Ancient Iran, Epic Iran, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Celtic peoples, Germanic peoples, and Baltic and Slaveic peoples. Add to that essays on the study of myth, an analysis of creation myth in the ancient Near East, a discussion about Indo-Europeans and Indo-Iranians, as well as sections on "God and Warrior," "King and Virgin," "Horse and Ruler," "Fire in Water," and "Twin and Brother," and you just can't find anything that compares to this text. Dr. Puhvel offers suggestions for further reading at the end of every chapter and an excellent bibliography. This is a wonderful book to use as a text in classe! ! s on mythology as well as a great reference work for your personal library. If you love mythology, whether you are a scholar or an aficionado, this is definitely the book for you!

The Blair Reader Review

The Blair Reader also provides an instructor's resource manual that guides the teacher through the use of collaborative group and multimedia activities to stimulate student writing. (More customer reviews)As an Indian born and raised in America, I have always had a faint familiarity with the spoken Hindi language as I gleaned bits and pieces from the conversations between my parents. I had also learned the basics of reading and writing the Hindi script as a young child. Presently a college student, I have desired to become proficient in Hindi and reconnect to the country of my family. I purchased Dr. Khare's book in order to learn the proper way to translate and write Hindi text. Learn Hindi and Hindi Primer part 1 are two of the best tools I could have purchased for this purpose. I am the kind of person that is not satisfied with simply knowing how a phrase is commonly written or translated. I want to know why. I want to know the methodology and rules behind the grammar. To me, that is the best way to learn. Dr. Khare's books taught me how to approach translating sentences into Hindi with a clear and effective set of rules while other books can only hope the reader makes connections after going through the chapters three or four times. These two books complement one another so well. While one provides the conventions of grammar to translate virtually any thought into and out of Hindi, the other provides chapters devoted to steadily building your vocabulary and using those new words in simple sentences. There is plenty of repetition to make sure the reader masters a concept before moving on. Overall, I must say that these books provided the structure a disciplined person needs to really learn how to read, write, and translate Hindi. I wholeheartedly recommend it to beginners and those who have a faint knowledge of the script and I look forward to continuing my studies with these very books and hopefully mastering their concepts eventually.

(More customer reviews)I own and have used numerous grammar books, and this one is without a doubt THE best grammar book on the market for the general reader. Mr. Good starts on the ground floor, so that no previous knowledge of grammar is needed. At the same time, however, he does not talk down to the reader, nor does he shy away from many aspects of grammar that other books deem too complex for beginners. Everything is explained here with perfect clarity, and nothing important is left out. Moreover, beyond Mr. Good's superlative explanations of grammar, this book earns 10 stars because Mr. Good shows us how our knowledge of grammar can improve our writing. He does this not with airy praise of grammatical education, but with concrete examples and advice that you can start using to improve your writing immediately. This book is not short, and it's not full of jokes and cartoons. But, if you really want to learn grammar and to write and speak better, buy this book now and read it from cover to cover. I can't think of any better way to spend your money and time.

First off, thanks to the authors for writing a book that is applicable to teaching and learning. I've read 6 other books on 21st century skills topics and none have come close to providing models, examples, etc. on teaching and learning. In this book the authors spend less time detailing the changes in our world that are bringing an emphasis on "21st century skills" back to the forefront and more time on defining the skills and a learning framework to be used by educators in assisting students acquisition of these skills. The text details each "21st century skill" with descriptors of what students should be able to do. For educators, this is paramount in designing performance tasks and/or evaluating student performance tasks as actually being a "21st century skill." The authors then provide a learning framework or the "the project learning bicycle" and finish up with good descriptors of system changes to promote the implementation of their ideas. To sum up my thoughts, this is a book written for educational practitioners.

With this book, you can make your first object oriented project a GOOD one with ease! A must have for a beginner on object-oriented projects. I've tried other books, but none compared to this.
